The Ministry of Unification announced on Monday that it will host an International Conference on Peaceful Coexistence Policies and Inter-Korean Human Rights Cooperation at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on August 25.
This conference is designed to explore sustainable and practical cooperation strategies for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula, amid efforts to ease tensions and establish a peace regime.
The event will commence with opening remarks by Vice Minister Kim Nam-jung of the Ministry of Unification, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Emeritus Moon Chung-in from Yonsei University on the topic Peace, Human Rights, and the Lee Jae Myung Administration’s Practical Diplomacy: Challenges and Prospects.
The first session will focus on Peaceful Coexistence and Human Rights, discussing the concept of the right to peace, the relationship between peaceful coexistence and human rights, and various international experiences and case studies.
The second session will address International Cooperation Measures for Substantial Human Rights Improvement. The third session will explore Strategies for Establishing a Foundation for Inter-Korean Human Rights Cooperation, covering topics such as legal and policy framework development, linking social rights with development cooperation, and leveraging United Nations (UN) human rights mechanisms for collaboration.
A Ministry of Unification official stated that they plan to pursue inter-Korean human rights cooperation policies based on the vision of peaceful coexistence and development on the Korean Peninsula, with the aim of substantially improving the human rights and living conditions of North Korean residents.
