Samsung Medison has unveiled its premium obstetric ultrasound device, the HERA Z10, expanding its women’s health diagnostic equipment lineup.

The company showcased the HERA Z10 at the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) conference in London from September 4-7, as announced on September 7.

The HERA Z10 builds upon the artificial intelligence (AI)-driven clinical workflow and imaging technology of its flagship predecessor, the HERA Z20. Samsung Medison aims to establish a comprehensive women’s health diagnostic platform through the HERA Z Series, comprising both the HERA Z20 and HERA Z10, enabling simultaneous monitoring of maternal and fetal health.

The device incorporates AI-based automatic measurement and diagnostic assistance features. Samsung Medison reports that the Live ViewAssist function can reduce mid-pregnancy precision ultrasound examination times by up to 52%. The EzStructure feature, which automates key measurements, can decrease manual operations by as much as 71%.

These findings were confirmed in a collaborative study involving Professors Giuseppe Rizzo and Daniele Di Mascio from Sapienza University in Rome, Italy.

Blood flow and female reproductive organ imaging capabilities have also been enhanced. The MV-Flow 3D feature offers high-resolution micro-blood flow visualization, useful for examining placental adhesion and uterine or umbilical blood vessels.

FibroidVue employs AI to automatically differentiate and measure uterine, endometrial, and fibroid areas, streamlining the examination process and reducing manual measurement burdens on medical professionals.

Samsung Medison recognizes the evolving role of prenatal ultrasounds, which now extends beyond fetal assessment to evaluate maternal health and pregnancy complication risks, given the rise in advanced maternal age and pregnancy-related complications.

Consequently, the company plans to expand the HERA Z Series into a comprehensive platform covering fetal diagnostics, maternal health assessments, and newborn diagnostics. This expansion includes the development of specialized probes for newborn examinations.

At the ISUOG conference, Samsung Medison demonstrated the HERA Z Series’ AI capabilities alongside a pregnancy cycle management solution that integrates fetal ultrasound imaging with Galaxy tablets.

Kim Ji-hyun, Samsung Medison’s CX team leader, stated that the HERA Z10 is designed to extend the HERA Z Series’ clinical value across diverse medical settings. It’s committed to meeting varied healthcare needs through the premium imaging technology and AI-driven workflows.

Samsung Medison traces its origins to Medison, founded in 1985, which gained recognition for introducing the world’s first three-dimensional ultrasound diagnostic device.

After facing financial challenges in the early 2000s, Medison was acquired by Samsung Electronics in 2010 and rebranded as Samsung Medison.

Initially struggling to break into the established medical device market, Samsung Medison persevered in pursuing global opportunities under the Samsung brand. Today, it supplies ultrasound diagnostic devices to over 100 countries worldwide.

The company has evolved into a global medical device leader, with exports accounting for more than 90% of its revenue.
