A 50-year-old man was sentenced to prison for attempts to import illegal air guns and gun parts.

According to the legal system, on February 20th, the 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Kwon Sung Soo) sentenced this man to one year and six months in prison on February 1st due to charges of violating the law on safety management of firearms, swords, and explosives.

The man is accused of attempting to import air guns and gun parts from April to June 2022 for a total of 13 times without the permission of the Chief of the National Police Agency.

He was also involved in a hit-and-run incident that left two people injured. This occurred when he ignored a no-straight-ahead sign at 6:35 PM KST on December 23rd, 2021, and drove straight in a lane designated for left turns only, colliding with the left bumper of an approaching vehicle.

The court, in its ruling, emphasized the severe risks and strict regulations surrounding the importation of explosives and firearms to ensure public safety.

They also pointed out that despite a previous suspended sentence, his continual law-breaking shows he’s unlikely to follow the law and is prone to re-offend.
