Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets from the South Korean and United States armies conducted the Korea-U.S. ROTC Joint Training for the second consecutive year.

According to the South Korean Army, the South Korea-U.S. ROTC Joint Training took place at the Korea Army ROTC Training Center in Goesan, North Chungcheong Province, from July 17 to 19. The event saw the participation of about 40 U.S. ROTC fourth-year cadets who joined their South Korean counterparts for three days of summer training.

In this joint training, cadets from both countries formed a team to discuss tactics in English, conduct operations from assembly points, maneuver to target areas, overcome obstacles, and engage in combat with opposing forces.

In particular, the South Korean Army arranged for one-on-one mentor cadets to accompany the U.S. cadets on the first day of the joint training and conducted joint squad attacks and physical exercises on the second. On the last day, following early morning combined squad attack training, there was a friendly exchange event between the cadets of both nations.

U.S. cadet Mare Woodson mentioned that while interacting and training with South Korean cadets, she discovered many commonalities between them. She added that she hopes to return to South Korea as a U.S. Army officer and reunite with the cadets she trained with.

The South Korean Army plans to conduct an additional joint training in August, with about 20 third-year U.S. ROTC cadets participating.
