Recently, South Korean military authorities have reported that the Dongmyeong Unit, part of the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, has raised its defense posture and reduced off-base operations. This adjustment comes in response to recent armed clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group.

During a regular briefing, Lee Chang Hyun, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated, “We have confirmed that the Dongmyeong Unit has not been directly affected by the current situation.”

He further stated that the Dongmyeong Unit has strengthened its defense posture and is currently minimizing off-base operations to manage the situation effectively. He also emphasized that the Joint Chiefs of Staff closely monitor local developments while cooperating with relevant agencies.

In response, Hezbollah announced that it fired approximately 320 rockets at Israel and attacked 11 military bases using drones. Hezbollah stated that this attack was in retaliation for the death of its top commander, Fuad Shukr, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, last month.
