Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tesla, revealed that he had direct communication with Lee Jae-yong, Executive Chairman of Samsung Electronics (Samsung), to discuss a partnership between their companies.

On Tuesday, Musk shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he had a video call with Samsung’s chairman and top executives to discuss what a true partnership could look like. Further adding that their aim is to leverage both companies’ strengths to achieve exceptional results.

Earlier, following reports about Samsung Electronics securing next-generation foundry orders, Musk emphasized on X that Samsung’s new large-scale Texas fab will be dedicated to producing Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chips. Calling that this is strategically crucial.

He also noted that Samsung is currently manufacturing AI4 chips. Adding that TSMC will initially produce the finalized AI5 chips in Taiwan, and later at their Arizona facility.

Musk added that Samsung has agreed to help Tesla maximize manufacturing efficiency. He noted that this is a critical aspect, and he plans to personally inspect the production line to accelerate progress.

When a user shared the post suggesting Samsung might not understand what they’ve agreed to, Musk clarified that they do know, confirming the communication.

Responding to another user’s concern that Samsung is the underdog in semiconductor manufacturing, Musk stated that both TSMC and Samsung are excellent companies. Further mentioning that it’s an honor to collaborate with them.

Meanwhile, Chairman Lee departed from Gimpo International Airport for Washington, D.C. While his specific itinerary remains undisclosed, speculation suggests he may be supporting U.S.-South Korea tariff negotiations, given the destination and timing.
