Daewoong Pharmaceutical will participate in the 24th Asian Academy of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders (AAOT) and the 4th International Academy of Clinical Myofunctional Dental Medicine (IACMD) conference in Bali, Indonesia, expanding academic exchanges with medical professionals specializing in dentistry, orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders across Asia.

The conference is a specialized academic event focused on the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), bruxism and jaw clenching, as well as pain and functional disorders involving the muscles used for chewing.

TMD refers to disorders affecting the temporomandibular joints or the muscles responsible for jaw movement. Symptoms can include jaw pain, difficulty opening the mouth and clicking or other sounds in the jaw joint.

During the conference, Daewoong will host an academic lecture and hands-on workshop on the use of botulinum toxin for orofacial pain and TMD. The company will also operate a Nabota exhibition booth to introduce clinical information and key product characteristics to attending medical professionals.

On the second day of the conference, Professor Kim Seong-taek of the Department of Oral Medicine at Yonsei University College of Dentistry will deliver a lecture titled “Applications of Botulinum Toxin in Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders.”

The lecture will cover clinical approaches to using botulinum toxin in the treatment of pain and functional disorders involving the muscles of the orofacial region. It will also discuss potential applications, treatment strategies and injection techniques that clinicians can consider based on real-world clinical experience.

A hands-on workshop covering the same topic will follow. The workshop will focus on injection techniques using Nabota for benign masseter hypertrophy, commonly associated with a wider or more square-shaped jawline. Participants will be able to learn practical techniques and clinical approaches that can be applied in actual dental practice.

Daewoong will also operate a Nabota exhibition booth throughout the event. Through product information materials and an actual product display, the company plans to provide dental and medical professionals from Indonesia and the broader Asia-Pacific region with information about Nabota and its clinical value, while facilitating academic exchange and professional networking.

Because the conference is expected to draw numerous professionals specializing in dentistry, orofacial pain and TMD, Daewoong plans to introduce five indications for Nabota approved in Indonesia, with particular emphasis on benign masseter hypertrophy, an indication for which Nabota was first approved worldwide in South Korea.

Through these activities, Daewoong aims to build on Nabota’s established brand presence in the medical aesthetics field while highlighting its potential clinical applications in dental settings and expanding academic engagement with healthcare professionals in Indonesia and across the Asia-Pacific region.

Joon-soo Yoon, head of Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s Nabota Business Division, said, “Nabota continues to expand its potential clinical applications through ongoing global academic exchange. Through this conference, we aim to deepen understanding of Nabota’s product characteristics and its indication for benign masseter hypertrophy among medical professionals in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region, while expanding our engagement with specialists in dentistry, orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders.”
